Privacy Policy

Split It ("the App") is a music practice tool that uses AI-powered stem separation to help musicians practice. This policy explains how the App handles data.
1. Data We Do Not Collect
The App does not collect, store, or process any personal information such as:
- Names, email addresses, or account credentials
- Location data
- Device identifiers or advertising IDs
- Usage analytics or tracking data
No user accounts are required to use the App.
2. Audio Files You Upload
When you upload an audio file, the following occurs:
- The audio file is sent to our server hosted on Render.com (Oregon, USA) for processing.
- The audio is then forwarded to Modal.com (a third-party cloud GPU service) to perform AI stem separation.
- The resulting separated audio tracks (stems) are stored in Cloudflare R2 object storage, together with the song's title (taken from the file name), duration and file size.
- The original file you upload is not kept: it is deleted from our server once separation finishes.
- Your library is linked only to an anonymous session ID stored on your device (in your browser, or in the app). It is not linked to any user identity.
3. How Long Stems Are Kept
- Stems are deleted automatically after 4 months without being played. The song stays in your library so you can split it again from your file. Any lyrics for it are deleted at the same time.
- To know when a song was last played, the App records the date its stems were last used — on our server when they are downloaded, and on your device when you play a copy already stored there, which is reported the next time your library refreshes. Only the date is recorded, not who played the song.
- You can delete any song at any time using the trash icon. It leaves your library, and its lyrics are deleted, immediately. Its stems are erased within two days, unless another user has uploaded the exact same file, in which case they are kept for that user.
- The mobile apps keep copies of recent stems on your device so songs reopen instantly. You can remove them at any time from the Storage screen, and they are removed when you uninstall the app.
4. Lyrics
Lyrics are transcribed only when you open the Lyrics panel for a song. In that case the isolated vocal track — never your original file — is sent to Gladia, a third-party speech-to-text service, through a temporary link that expires after one hour. The resulting words and their timings are stored in Cloudflare R2 with your song, and are deleted when the song is deleted or its stems expire.

The App is not directed at children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect any information from children under 13.
7. Data Security
All communication between the App and our server uses HTTPS. Stems and lyrics are stored in Cloudflare R2 and are associated only with an anonymous session ID — not with any personal data.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted at this URL with an updated date.
